The License for charging station in UP is required to set up a power station plant for vehicle charging for electronic vehicles (EV) in Uttar Pradesh. As per the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Power in December 2018, any entity or individual is free to set up a public charging station, which is a Di-licensed activity. Private charging stations are also permitted in residences and offices, and their minimum infrastructure requirements do not apply.
To encourage the adoption of electric vehicles, the government has also mandated that at least one charging station should be available in a grid of 3km x 3km, and every 25 kilometres, one charging station will be placed upon both sides of highways and roads. Additionally, at least one fast charging station should be available every 100 kilometres for long-range EVs and heavy-duty EVs such as buses and lorries.
Growing market demand | The demand for electric vehicles in India is on the rise, and the Uttar Pradesh market is expected to boom in the coming years. Thus, setting up a charging station in UP can be a profitable business venture |
Support from the government | The government of Uttar Pradesh is encouraging the adoption of electric vehicles and has launched various policies and initiatives to promote the same. Therefore, license holders for charging stations in UP can benefit from such initiatives |
Low competition | Since the electric vehicle market is still in its nascent stage in India, there is relatively less competition in this sector. This presents an opportunity for early movers to establish themselves in the market |
Positive impact on the environment | By setting up a charging station, license holders can contribute to the reduction of air pollution caused by traditional fossil-fuel vehicles |
Cost savings | Electric vehicles are cheaper to operate than traditional fuel-based vehicles. Therefore, setting up a charging station can provide cost savings to electric vehicle owners, leading to increased footfall and revenue for the charging station operator |
To apply for a License for a charging station in UP, the applicant must follow these steps:
Step 1: Submit an online application on the portal of the Ministry of Uttar Pradesh Power to generate login credentials.
Step 2: An acknowledgment will be generated after submitting the application.
Step 3: The concerned authority will conduct a land inspection and issue a transfer certificate.
Step 4: The applicant must pay the government fees for registration after the land inspection.

The Indian government has decided that as long as charging infrastructure complies with “Ministry of Electricity” regulations, no permission is needed to erect it. Hence, it is not necessary to obtain a special permit in order to transport, distribute, or exchange power for the purpose of charging the batteries of electric vehicles.
yes. Although the majority of EV drivers choose to charge at home, they are only able to do so at rates of 3 to 46 miles per hour. If they have Level 2 EV chargers set up, that is. For EV owners who simply need to recharge for shorter daily travels, this may be sufficient.
It is wise to verify with your local government before moving forward with the installation because, under some circumstances, permission is not necessary for the installation of wall-mounted EV charging points in locations that are legally utilised for off-street parking.
By open access, any PCS or chain of charging stations may also purchase electricity from any generation firm. Open access must be made available for this purpose within 15 days. Only cross subsidy costs, which cannot exceed 20% in accordance with the Tariff Policy Guidelines, transmission fees, and wheeling fees are permitted.
