Copyright registration is the process of legally registering a creative work with the government to establish ownership and protection of the work’s intellectual property rights. Copyright registration provides evidence of the copyright owner’s exclusive rights to reproduce, distribute, display, and perform their work. It also serves as a deterrent against infringement and provides the copyright owner with legal remedies in case of unauthorized use. Copyright registration typically involves submitting an application, fee, and a copy of the work being registered to the appropriate government agency, such as the United States Copyright Office.
