The Central Ground Water Authority (CGWA) is a regulatory body established by the Indian government to control and manage the development of groundwater resources in the country. One of the key functions of CGWA is to regulate the process of water boring, which involves drilling a well or borehole to extract groundwater for various purposes such as domestic, industrial, and agricultural use.
CGWA has established guidelines and regulations to ensure the sustainable use of groundwater resources and prevent over-exploitation of the aquifers. The authority issues NOCs (No Objection Certificates) for water boring activities in areas where the groundwater level is over-exploited or critical. It also regulates the number of boreholes that can be drilled in a particular area and the depth of the borehole.
The CGWA has established a web portal where individuals or organizations can apply for NOCs for water boring. The portal also provides information on the guidelines and regulations related to groundwater management and the process of applying for NOCs.
Ensuring sustainable groundwater management | CGWA-Water Boring services help in the sustainable management of groundwater resources by regulating and controlling groundwater development and usage |
Prevention of overexploitation of groundwater | By regulating the number and depth of borewells, CGWA-Water Boring services prevent overexploitation of groundwater resources, which is essential for the long-term sustainability of water resources |
Prevention of water contamination | CGWA-Water Boring services ensure that the quality of groundwater is not affected by drilling and pumping activities. This helps in preventing water contamination and ensuring the availability of safe drinking water |
Protection of natural ecosystems | By preventing overexploitation of groundwater, CGWA-Water Boring services protect the natural ecosystems that depend on groundwater for their survival |
Compliance with regulatory requirements | CGWA-Water Boring services ensure compliance with regulatory requirements related to groundwater development and usage. This helps in avoiding legal and financial penalties associated with non-compliance |

Step 4: Once the application is complete, CGWA will conduct a site inspection to assess the feasibility of the proposed water boring.
Step 5: After the inspection, CGWA will issue a NOC or reject the application with reasons.
Step 6: If the NOC is issued, the applicant should make the necessary payment as per the CGWA guidelines.
Step 7: Once the payment is received, the NOC will be issued to the applicant.

For the purpose of finding subsurface water, a ground penetrating radar (GPR) technology is employed. GPR is a promising tool for finding nonmetallic mines or aquifer water. The antenna system is one of the most crucial parts for the effectiveness of GPR.
Any water that is buried beneath a piece of land can be accessed by the owner. This means that no planning permission is required in order to drill a water borehole, making it simple for a developer to install a borehole as part of the construction of a property.
Consuming polluted borewell water can result in a number of dangerous illnesses. Harmful heavy metals including lead, fluoride, and arsenic are to blame for the hardness of borewell water. The most harmful heavy metal that can have detrimental health consequences on humans is poison.
This depends on the size of the installed submersible pump, but in general, a modest pump for everyday use—for example, an abstraction rate of less than 20 m3/day—will be very inexpensive to run.
